SB1070 works, so let’s get rid of it

California Asks Supreme Court to Overturn Arizona’s SB 1070 BECAUSE IT WORKS!

March 29, 2012 By Ira Mehlman

The U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments next month in the case of Arizona’s immigration enforcement law, SB 1070. Just about everyone with an interest in immigration policy, including FAIR and the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI,) is submitting amicus briefs in support or opposition to SB 1070.

But leave it to California to come up with the most novel argument as it tries to convince the Court to overturn the Arizona law. A document submitted by California Attorney General Kamala Harris asks the Court to overturn SB 1070 because it is likely to result in illegal aliens in Arizona moving to other states – like California. In other words, as a far as California is concerned, the problem with SB 1070 is that it works.

But wait a minute! I thought California wants illegal aliens. California needs illegal aliens. The California economy would collapse without illegal aliens. California offers every benefit imaginable to attract illegal aliens. You would think California would want the Supreme Court to uphold SB 1070 just so California could attract more illegal aliens to come and live there.

If California doesn’t want all the illegal aliens in Arizona to relocate to California, that’s another reason to ask the Court to uphold SB 1070. As soon as the Supreme Court declares SB 1070 to be constitutional, California could pass its own version of SB 1070 because, by the state’s own admission, it works.

Electric companies want YOU to pay their expenses

NEW: Greens Want Energy Bubble Loans from CPUC

MARCH 30, 2012/By WAYNE LUSVARDI

California is getting strapped for cash to continue to pay for subsidies for economically infeasible solar power and energy efficiency projects for homeowners and small businesses.

So the Environmental Defense Fund has concocted a proposal to the California Public Utilities Commission called “On-Bill Repayment.” This program would have electricity users pay for such energy upgrades in their monthly electricity bills.  The upfront money for energy upgrades would come from loans through commercial banks instead of government subsidies.  More…

Democrat Feinstein Wants to Start a War—A North vs. South Water War

by Stephen Frank on 03/29/2012

Senator Feinstein has decided a “good” water war is what she needs to get re-elected.

“Politicians have a way of using titles to their legislation that covers up what it is really all about.  More…

No pay raise if deficit remains, California elected officials warned

March 29, 2012 |  2:19 pm

GetprevIf Gov. Jerry Brown and California lawmakers fail to erase the state budget deficit in the next two months, they will be disqualified from getting a pay raise, officials warned Thursday. That is because a ballot measure approved by California voters in 2009 prohibits pay raises in years when the state has a budget deficit. “If we wanted to increase [pay], I don’t think we could,” said Thomas Dalzell, chairman of a citizens panel that sets the compensation for elected officials.  More…

Number of vaccinated kids drops steadily in California

With innovative programs, county officials encourage fearful parents to vaccinate

As a growing number of Californians exempt their children from required immunizations, public health departments statewide are launching campaigns to try to persuade them to vaccinate and legislators are trying to make it harder for them to get exemptions. Photo: @alviseni/Flickr

Is government the most efficient provider of services?

By STEVEN GREENHUT

By STEVEN GREENHUT/Special to the Register/letters@ocregister.com

SACRAMENTO – Faced with rising water rates, some politicians and community activists in Southern California are revisiting a fundamental question that most of us thought had been answered by the collapse of the Soviet Union: Is government the most efficient provider of services? We know of the poor quality of products and services provided by government monopolies. Yet officials in Stanton and Claremont think otherwise. They have discussed spending tens of millions of tax dollars to “buy” their water systems from a private water company that doesn’t want to sell them. To make matters worse, the cities’ efforts will require the use – some would say the abuse – of the power of eminent domain to acquire the properties by force. Taxpayers would be on the hook for all of this.  More…

Grimes: Democrats/Brown Decide Climate Change Can Wait For Nov. Election

by Stephen Frank on 03/28/2012 ·

Government is sleazy, it really does not want the public to know what it spends, how it spends or how its policies have created first the housing crisis and now the California Depression.

Jerry and his buddies has figured out a way to take tens of billions from businesses and transfer some to government and the rest to its special interest friends.  But they have decided to wait till after the November election to kill that California economy.  More…

New State Energy Tax is Illegal and Unwise

Loren KayeBy
President of the California Foundation for Commerce and Education
Monday, March 26th, 2012/Crossposted at CalChamber.com.

Billions of dollars in new taxes may soon flow into California state government to be spent on new programs.

The taxes are harmful to the economy, they’re probably illegal, and they’re not even needed for the program’s success.

And don’t even imagine that they’re getting Legislative or voter approval.

I’m not talking about new income taxes or sales taxes for education. Not new taxes to balance the state’s budget. Not new taxes to sew up the tattered safety net or rescue California’s once-vaunted higher education system.

Beginning later this year, billions in new revenues will be used for … well, we don’t exactly know yet.  More…

Dane Golden/FEMAA home in Atascadero shows damage from the late 2003 San Simeon earthquake.

Federal auditors are calling on officials in California to forgo more than $17 million in unused disaster aid set aside following severe storms, flooding and mudslides that occurred in 2005 and 2006. They’re also questioning an additional $13 million used to rebuild a school in San Luis Obispo County that watchdogs say could have been simply repaired.  More…

Defend Rural America, Siskiyou County (video)

Do you drink, eat, drive, have a roof over your head, wear jewelry, or use a computer? Then this story affects you. Siskiyou County is ground zero in the battle to defend our food, water, energy, construction materials, metals, and minerals against Big Government’s multi-faceted and ever-increasing assault that will, if not stopped, ultimately destroy our nation’s real National Treasury – our land, natural resources, and the hard-working farmers, ranchers, lumbermen, and miners that are their true stewards – and end our sovereignty, security, and self-reliance. The situation is far worse than most Americans realize. Mainstream media and government conspire to keep these truths from us. So watch now as the people of Siskiyou County give their first-hand accounts of what is truly at risk. This documentary was premiered on October 22, 2011 in Yreka, California along with the eight sheriffs that stood tall to defend the Constitution.

LIFE WITHOUT PROPOSITION 13

In Sacramento, where the political class feels they can never get enough money from taxpayers, Assemblyman Tom Ammiano has held another hearing on the “evil” Proposition 13, focusing on property tax protections for commercial property. But the intent is clear, as has been pointed out by taxpayer and small business advocate Joel Fox, the real target is all of Proposition 13. Ammiano’s star witness, economist Christopher Thornberg has been quoted as saying, “I can’t think of one reason in the world that Prop. 13 should exist.” And Ammiano, himself, has said about Proposition 13, “If it takes an incremental approach, so be it…my tendency is to want to nuke it.”  More…
